THE KEY OF DAVID.

Updated: Oct 12

Revelation 3:7-8 reveals Him who is Holy and true (Jesus). This principle is revealed as when Jesus opens a door no one can close it, and when He closes it no one can open it - I have opened a door that no one can shut - v7 REVEALS HOW THIS CAN BE! IT’S THE ONE WHO HOLDS THE KEY OF DAVID!
David is the most mentioned name in the Bible, except for the Lord Himself. Isaiah 22:22 reveals the same principle: the key of David and the door no one can shut.
When we meet Jesus and receive Him into our lives, the key of David opens the door to a new way of life.
The key turns again, and we are baptised, leaving the old things and old way of life behind.
The key of David turns in the door again, and the Holy Spirit baptises us with power to be witnesses for Jesus.
Another turn, and we gain understanding about the Great Architect of worship, who is David. We will visit some scriptures to help us understand this part when this door opens.
David is mentioned more than anyone else in the bible except for the Lord Himself.
Amos 9v11 Amos was a prophet who prophesied this! IN THE LAST DAYS (which we are in now) I WILL RESTORE DAVID’S FALLEN TENT (V13) THESE DAYS ARE COMING DECLARES THE LORD.
New wine from the mountains (mountain is a shadow of the Church), what does all this mean? Remember, it’s all physical in the Old Testament, so let’s turn to the New Testament, where it’s all spiritual. Acts 15v15-18 says the prophets agree with us, referring to Isaiah 9 which almost word-for-word says the same thing about David’s fallen tent or Tabernacle.
V17 this will encourage men to seek the Lord (as water flows out of the Temple) and the new wine is an outpouring of the Spirit of the Lord, just as Jesus said - the Church will have new wine skins in the last days, as the way we have always done it will not hold the new wine.
V18 These things have been known from the beginning. THIS IS A REVELATION TO THE DISCIPLES.
Since the time of Amos, this was known, but the Disciples saw this for the first time.
BUT DOES THIS MEAN A TENT LIKE DAVID’S WILL BE MADE BY HUMAN HANDS?
No, it is talking about the spiritual, not the physical, but the shadow was in Amos to be revealed to a new generation. Psalm 102v18 ‘let this be written for a people not yet created that they may praise the Lord’
The Temple, or tent, was in three parts… Outer court…Inner court….and the Holy of Holies.
In the Outer court was a brazen laver filled with water so the priest could cleanse himself before entering.
The Inner court was lit by artificial light as the priest moved through the sanctuary. Before him was a thick curtain separating the Inner Court and the Holy of Holies.
The third part, as the priest moved through the curtain, he entered into the Holy of Holies, where the Ark of God was kept with the manna preserved inside the Ark.
There was no artificial light in the Holy of Holies, but it was brilliantly illuminated; it was the Shekinah Glory of God that radiated throughout the Holy of Holies.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT US TODAY?
1 Thessalonians 5:23 tells us that there are three parts to the human being: body, soul, and spirit.
The only person who could enter the Temple was the priest - only he could enter through the curtain.
Matthew 27:51 & Luke 23:45 tell the same story that the curtain in the Temple was ripped from top to bottom when Jesus died. This opened the way into what was only the domain of the priest; you and I could enter.
BUT PRACTICALLY WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?
1. The Outer court.
The Brazen Laver, filled with water, is now a place of spiritual washing, and many churches have a prayer time just before the main service. This is to seek the face of the Lord and get all the week’s activities cleansed so we can go into the Sanctuary clean.
Leviticus 16:1-2: God said to Moses, "He is not to enter the holy place any way he chooses, or he will die!" He needed to cleanse himself first.
The prayer time before the main service is often called the pre-wash, referring to the brazen laver.
This is where we put in our requests and not in the main meeting, as we are only to worship the Lord and ascribe to Him the glory due to His name.
This is our bodies as we learn to take the key of David and worship in Spirit and truth - John 4:24.
We enter His courts with praise, Psalm 100v4 - here we are not worshipping, but praising Him with our bodies - the outer courts.
We praise Him with our lips - Hebrews 13:15. This is THE FRUIT OF OUR LIPS, a sacrifice of praise.
We may say Hallelujah! Or praise God! Amen! Glory to God, etc. Psalm 95:1-2, Psalm 98:4 & Psalm 100:1.
Hebrews 2:12 I will sing your praise in the presence of the people.
We clap with our hands - Psalm 47:1 Clap your hands, all you people.
Whether dancing, praising, clapping, or shouting - 1 Chronicles 16v29 ascribe to the Lord the Glory due to His name.
2. The Inner court.
This is a shadow of our soul where our emotions get touched. We can sense the presence of the Lord, we can be emotionally moved as the Spirit of the Lord touches our souls, we can say emotionally ‘I love you Lord’ - We sometimes weep as we sense Him and His presence.
Our souls are touched as we draw closer to the Lord Almighty. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for our salvation, thank you, thank you.
‘What a morning! What a day, what a time we had, BUT most churches stop there and end for fellowship or cups of tea.
We miss moving into the Holy of Holies.
3. The Holy of Holies.
This is the part of us which the bible calls our Spirits, the third part of our Temple.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you are the Temple of God where His Spirit dwells in you? Many good Christians don’t know, or they forget this, and that is why this portion says - Don’t you know?
We have come into the Outer courts, our outer body praising, clapping, dancing etc. then we move into the Inner courts which is our soul where we express our deepest love for the Lord, but now we move on to the Holy of Holies, where the Shekinah Glory of God is - over the Ark was the cherubim and the seraphim with their wings extended over the Ark.
This is where the felt presence of God dwells.
Matthew 21v15-16, the religious became indignant as the children shouted Hosannah! Hosannah! Many people are uncomfortable in true worship when areas of their lives are not right.
2 Chronicles 29:1-6 Hezekiah said, " Consecrate yourselves and remove any defilement so you may change.
2 Chronicles 5v11-14: when the people worshipped with their families, with stringed instruments, harps, trumpets, choirs, percussion, and cymbals, praising and saying, "He is good for His mercy endures forever"-all these instruments were not developed in the 21st century, but thousands of years ago for the church.
THEN! THE HOUSE OF THE LORD WAS FILLED WITH A CLOUD, AND THE PRIESTS COULD NOT CONTINUE MINISTERING BECAUSE THE GLORY OF THE LORD FILLED THE HOUSE OF GOD. THEN SOLOMON SPOKE THE WORD.
SO MANY CHURCHES MISS THE GLORY OF GOD IN THEIR SERVICES BY NOT ENTERING THE HOLY OF HOLIES.
THIS IS WHERE THE MIRACLES HAPPEN, PEOPLE FALL ON THEIR KNEES TO GIVE THEIR LIVES TO CHRIST, SUPERNATURAL HEALINGS IN THE FELT PRESENCE OF GOD.
Many churches try to enter the Holy of Holies first, some go to the Inner court first, and then to the Outer court.
My dear friends, we have to follow the Architect’s design as there is no other design.
When we do this, the world will sit up and wonder!
2 Chronicles 20v21-22. Battles are won; this Davidic worship transforms churches.
Psalm 24:7 - lift up your gates and the King of Glory will come in!
THE KEY OF DAVID GETS US INTO THE PRESENCE OF GOD.
Hebrews 2:11-12 tells us that Jesus, who makes us holy, says I will declare your name to my brothers; IN THE PRESENCE OF THE CONGREGATION, I will sing your praises.
SOMETIMES IN THE CONGREGATION JESUS CAN SING BACK TO US, WHAT A REVELATION, WHAT A GATHERING TO HEAR THE VOICE OF JESUS.
The key of David turns, and the door opens.
Ephesians 5:19 - speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.
Colossians 3:16 - Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
This is not meant to be an exhaustive study but just a panoramic glance. It is impossible to put it all down, as this needs a teaching study to cover more.
The next study is how to have a happy church.
